One person hospitalized after Seneca Falls fire

On Wednesday May 20 at approximately 5:12 am the Seneca Falls Police Department along with the Seneca Falls Fire Department responded to 2132 Route 5 and 20 in Seneca Falls for a report of a structure fire. Upon arrival, officers observed heavy smoke coming from the upstairs of the residence where it was reported that one person was still inside the residence. Police located the person and evacuated the person from the residence. The person, Ernest L. Quigley, Jr. was treated for smoke inhalation and transported to the hospital by North Seneca Ambulance for further evaluation. The residence did sustain structural damage. The fire was believed to have occurred due to a problem with the heater in the upstairs apartment. It is unknown if the home is insured. All other occupants were evacuated from the residence and did not sustain any injuries. The Waterloo Fire Department assisted the Seneca Falls Fire Department at the scene. Traffic on Route 5 and 20 was shut down and rerouted while officers and fire personnel were on scene of the fire. Members from the NYSP, Seneca County Sheriff’s Department, and Waterloo Police Department assisted Town Police at the scene and with traffic control.
