Honoring our Nation’s greatest heroes, as well as recognizing our region’s historic significance as the birthplace of Memorial Day, State Senator Mike Nozzolio will be speaking at in a special Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 25th at the Sampson Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Romulus. Senator Nozzolio is urging everyone to support and honor our veterans by attending their local Memorial Day ceremonies on Monday, May 25th.”It is my hope that after participating in these local ceremonies, that area residents will join me at the Sampson Veterans Memorial Cemetery for a ceremony to honor the memory of all of our Nation’s veterans,” said Senator Nozzolio. “The ceremony begins at 3:00 PM at the cemetery in Romulus and will culminate with a military salute with honors to recognize those individuals who gave their lives throughout history to protect the freedoms that we enjoy today. To date, over 250 veterans and their dependents have been buried at Sampson””We have no greater obligation than to honor and thank our veterans for their service to our Nation, whether in times of peace or in times of war,” continued Senator Nozzolio. “Just as our veterans recognized their duty to honor and serve their Country, we too must recognize our duty as Americans to honor the profound sacrifices they made so that we could live our lives in freedom.”The Sampson Veterans Memorial Cemetery was officially dedicated in July of 2011, after more than a decade of hard work and planning. The cemetery is located at the site of the former Sampson Naval and Air Force base where over a million sailors and airmen were trained in preparation for battle.
