What better way to spend a Sunday morning than strolling down Main Street looking at lovingly restored cars and trucks and listening to music of popular disc jockeys. The popular Celebrate Commemorate car show begins at 11 am May 24. “Wheels on Main Street” will feature hundreds of motorized vehicles from farm tractors to race cars to classic and antique cars on display. Disc Jockeys Jim Schreck of WNYR-FM radio and Bob Gilbert of Dynamic Sound will set up on opposite ends of Main Street to provide music for strolling. Look for special Woodies, the wooden-bodied cars manufactured in Waterloo from 1939 to 1957.The show is organized by Lou and Alice LeBrun, Bob and Bev Good and Gary and Donna Stengle. Registrations may be made between 9 and 10 am the day of the show at the booth in front of the police department, 41 West Main Street. Registrants will receive a commemorative dash plaque. Registration is free.
The 16th annual Celebrate Commemorate event will be held May 22-24 in Waterloo, the Birthplace of Memorial Day. It will include prayer services, and the official Memorial Day parade at 6 pm, followed by ceremonies in Lafayette Park.
