On Sunday the Penn Yan Police Department arrested 60 year old Raymond R. Hurlburt of no address after an officer witnessed a vehicle he was operating traveling South on Liberty Street at 70 mph in a 30 mph speed zone.The officer stopped Hurlburt on Elm Street . Once the officer made contact with Hurlburt, he began to make homicidal as well as suicidal threats to the officer. During the interaction Hurlburt put his vehicle in drive and fled the scene. The officer pursued the vehicle for about a block when a tow truck operator observed the chase and was able to box Hurlburt’s vehicle in, ending the chase. Traffic was stopped in both directions for a brief time as officers ordered Hurlburt out of his vehicle. Yates County Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol assisted at the scene.Hurlburt was transported to Soldiers and Sailors Hospital Emergency Room for a mental evaluation. He was charged with Unlawfully Fleeing from Police in a Motor Vehicle, Reckless Endangerment 2nd Degree, Obstruction of Government Administration 2nd Degree, Resisting Arrest, Reckless Driving, Failure to Comply with Lawful Order, Speed in Zone, and Insufficient Turn Signal.Hurlburt was arraigned in the Village of Penn Yan Court and was remanded to the Yates County Jail on $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 Bond. He will appear in The Village of Penn Yan Court at a later date.
