Since 2002, Seneca Meadows, Inc. has been helping Seneca County families stretch their landscaping budgets by providing free mulch in a one day event the company calls, the Mulch Give-Away. Families from every corner of the County line up in pick-up trucks (and occasionally in a car or caravan) along the company’s mile-long driveway to receive the popular commodity.“It’s a great program for our community,” said Seneca Falls resident, Greg Cotterill. “My family has participated for many years, sometimes making it first in line. It’s been a helpful cost saver.”Acting District Manager for Seneca Meadows, Kyle Black, said this about the event, “The Mulch Give-Away is an ecologically valuable program that services about four hundred families per year. We purchase the mulch from a local vendor, so it encourages the local economy on multiple levels.”This year’s Mulch Give-Away is scheduled for Saturday, May 16, 2015, from 7:00 – 11:00 am at the Seneca Meadows Landfill on Route 414. The program is organized on a first come, first served basis. Participants should bring a pick-up truck, trailer or containers for their mulch, and must show proof of residency. Seneca Meadows personnel will be on hand to assist those with containers. Mulch is limited to two scoops per household.
