Canandaigua Academy to host ‘Night Club Night’

The Canandaigua Academy Music Department is excited to announce our annual district Jazz Concert, Night Club Night on Friday, May 1 at 7:30 PM. We have a terrific lineup of music featuring over 75 Instrumental Jazz students from grades 6-12. Each year, students and families alike look forward to joining us in the CA Auditorium for a fun and special evening filled with great music, energy, dancing and desserts! Sharing the student’s stage this year will be guest artist and jazz trumpeter, Dave Chisholm. (http://www.davechisholmmusic.com/bio.htm) Dave is an innovative artist in both the visual and musical realms and has published several albums, musical scores and a good deal of visual art as well. He currently resides in Rochester, where he recently finished his DMA in Jazz Studies from the Eastman School of Music. In addition to featuring great musical performances, this event will also serve as another opportunity to remember our former colleague and musical inspiration, Peter Nelson. Before his passing, Pete gave countless hours to the student musicians in Canandaigua. He performed for years with both the Middle School Jazz Ensemble and the Academy musical productions. As we all continue to reflect on the legacy of giving that Pete left behind, it seems only fitting that we honor him at this year’s performance. Through the generosity of his friends, colleagues, and family, a scholarship has been established at the Academy that will benefit future student musicians. While generous contribution have already been made and continue to be accepted, a portion of the evening’s proceeds will help fund this new student opportunity. Additionally, donations can be made to the Canandaigua City School District. Checks should be made payable to the Canandaigua City School District in memory of Peter Nelson and may be mailed to 143 N. Pearl St., Canandaigua, NY 14424. General donations will also be accepted at the door.” Doors open at 7PM, with the Middle School Jazz Ensemble starting the show at 7:30 PM, followed by the Academy New Jazz Ensemble and the Academy Jazz Ensemble. Tickets are $5 at the door. Bring your dancing shoes, a hunger for jazz music and a sweet tooth!
