Seneca County Sheriff Jack Stenberg reports that the Sheriff’s Office is again participating in “Operation Safe Stop” – a statewide program in partnership with the Governor’s Traffic Safety Program , in which marked Sheriff’s Patrols will be following buses in the morning and afternoon runs throughout Seneca County. Sheriff Stenberg states that our children’s safety is paramount not just today but everyday- and today we are just reminding the motorists to be on the lookout for stopped school buses – whenever a driver either meets or overtakes from either direction a school bus that is stopped with its red lights on – the driver must stop and not proceed until the bus resumes motion . The fine for passing a stopped school bus is at least $250 and up to $400 for a first time offense.
