Temperatures this morning are in the single digits, but that is about as high as they will go. Any movement in the temperature today will likely be downward as another blast of arctic cold moves in.Winds will increase tonight as temperatures drop below zero. The result will be dangerous wind chills once again of -20º to -30º. Wind chill warnings are in effect region-wide.Some lake effect snow will also be possible, especially this afternoon and evening. A narrow band will develop along the south shore of Lake Ontario eastward towards Oneida lake in the afternoon. This will then drop south towards Auburn tonight before weakening and lifting back north overnight. Most places will only see a couple of additional inches, but the wind will make conditions worse than a couple inches normally would produce. An example of the lake effect is seen in the photo below as a tractor-trailer was disabled after jack-knifing while passing through one of the active bands of snow near the Weedsport shortly afternoon noon on Thursday afternoon… (FL1 Staff Photo)
Areas of blowing snow are possible outside of the band as well, making travel locally difficult. Friday is not looking much better than today, with more cold and wind.CNY Central Meteorologist Peter Hall’s morning forecast for 2/19…Also, if you have not gotten the snow you wanted there is some available at Seneca Farm & Home Supply in Seneca Falls. And the price is right! (Photo by Rachel Burkholder)
