W-FL Friday: Red Creek, Newark clinch titles

League titles were on the line on the final Friday of the regular season last night in Wayne-Finger Lakes boys varsity basketball. At the end of the evening, two teams claimed at least a share of their respective league championship.Newark held off a stiff challenge from visiting Penn Yan to claim the outright title in the Finger Lakes East in a game that was broadcast live on FL1 Sports. The Reds used a late surge by senior PG Tyler Collins, back after missing the last two games with an ankle injury, to pull away in the fourth quarter on Senior Night in Newark. Up next, a trip to Seneca Falls to face Mynderse on Tuesday for an opportunity to finish undefeated in FL East play this season.In Wayne County, Red Creek defeated Williamson, which coupled with a North Rose-Wolcott win at Lyons, means that the Rams have claimed the Wayne County title for the first time in school history.
