Chinese fire drill, cocaine at Penn Yan traffic stop

On Saturday at 1:50 a, Penn Yan police conducted a traffic stop on Ogden Street. As officers pulled behind the a vehicle, the driver, Omar B. Johnson age 38 of Penn Yan, was observed exiting the vehicle via the driver side door and re-enter the vehicle in the back seat. Police also observed the passenger, Kayla M. Peaty, age 23 of Himrod, moving into the driver’s seat. Peaty was identified by police as Johnson’s girlfriend.Officers learned that Johnson’s driving privileges had been suspended, approached the vehicle, and ordered Johnson out. Johnson exited the vehicle and began to charge the officers at which time they displayed their tasers and were able to take him into custody.A search of the vehicle revealed a bag of white powder that tested positive for cocaine.Johnson was charged with felony criminal possession of a controlled substance (5th), criminal mischief, obstruction of governmental administration, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, aggravated unlicensed operation (3rd), DWI, open container, and speed in zone. He was remanded to the Yates County Jail on $5,000 bail or $10,000 bond and will reappear in Penn Yan Village Court on 2/2/15 for arraignment.Kayla Peaty was arrested and charged with felony criminal possession of a controlled substance (5th), disorderly conduct and obstruction of governmental administration. She was released and will appear in Village Court on 2/2/15.
