Fire on County House Rd destroys home

The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office reports, on Friday at approximately 5:00 pm Deputies responded to 1282A County House Rd. in the Town of Fayette for the reported structure fire. Upon Deputies arrival, the residence was fully engulfed in flames. It was reported that Joy Martin age 36, and her eight children, ages 3-15, were home when she noticed thick black smoke coming from a play room. Joy and three of her elder children attempted to put the fire out but it quickly spread to other areas of the residence. Joy Martin and her children were able to escape the blaze without injuries. Joys husband ,Ernest Martin age 38 was not home at the time. The fire was eventually extinguished by the following fire departments; Waterloo, Border City, Fayette, Romulus, Varick, Junius, Canoga, Ovid, Magee, Northside, and Seneca Falls. The Fire Investigation Team determined that cause of the fire was accidental. It appears as though an object was placed too close to a wood stove that was in the toy room. The residence is owned by Clarence Martin age 64 of 3374 Hoster Rd Seneca Falls and was a total loss. It is estimated that the residence was valued at $35,000. There was no insurance on the home. Beverly Animal Shelter arrived on scene and took custody of a cat. Deputies were assisted at the scene by the New York State Police and North Seneca Ambulance.
