One person is dead after a domestic dispute in Newark led to a high speed chase on Route 88 that ended in a serious collision with a vehicle in Phelps Tuesday afternoon shortly before 4:00 pm. Newark Police Chief David Christler said the incident began when an officer from his department noticed a man and a woman in their 40s arguing outside Dunkin’ Donuts on North Main Street in Newark. Christler said the officer approached the couple and the man "went into a rage," and threatened to injure himself and others with a knife. The pursuit hit speeds of up to 80 miles per hour on Route 88 and ended as the suspect’s vehicle, a PT Cruiser, collided at high speed with a Jeep Cherokee pulling out of a lot at Windy Hill Flower Farm near the intersection of Route 88 and Route 96.
