Arrest in Waterloo after death threat with a hammer

The Waterloo Police Department arrested Donald J. Derleth, age 45, no permanent address, for Criminal Contempt in the first degree (felony), Burglary in the second degree (felony), Menacing in the second degree (misdemeanor), Criminal Mischief in the fourth degree (misdemeanor) and Harassment in the second degree (violation).The charges stem from a domestic incident where it is alleged that Donald Derleth struck a Village of Waterloo resident in the face, forced entry into the resident’s home damaging a door, and also threatened to kill the same person while holding a hammer over their head. There was a stay away order of protection in place against Derleth at the time of the incident.Derleth was arraigned in the Village of Waterloo Court and committed to the Seneca County Correctional Facility on $5,000 cash/$10,000 insured bond bail. Derleth is to re-appear in the Village of Waterloo Court on December 19th at 10:30 am.
