The United Way of Seneca County announces the selection of the new Executive Director. As Karen Beals, Executive Director for sixteen years is retiring, the Board and staff welcome her successor, Karen Macier. Ms. Macier will be leading the United Way of Seneca County into its next phase with a strong background in community participation, resource expansion, and marketing development. Ms. Macier’s tenure officially starts on January 4, 2015.Originally from Auburn, NY, Ms. Macier graduated from Eisenhower College RIT and received her masters degree from Empire State College. She most recently worked for East Hill Family Medical Center and Tompkins Cortland Community College. Ms. Macier has been recognized as an Inaugural Honor Roll Inductee with State University of New York Council on University Affairs and Development as well as Woman of Achievement from the former Seven Lakes Girl Scout Council.Board Chair Jeff Hoffman shared, “The United Way of Seneca County is excited to welcome Karen Macier. I’ve worked with Karen for many years both in professional and volunteer settings. Her expertise, energy and enthusiasm will move us forward as a true change agent for Seneca County.””As past president of the United Way and member of the Search Committee for the Executive Director, I welcome Ms. Macier and her many qualifications to carry on the exciting programs of our progressive United Way. I’m sure she will become acquainted with the entire county and its many resourceful community members.” says Phyllis Motill.During her career, Ms. Macier has been involved with the Auburn Rotary Club, Auburn BID, Zonta, Auburn Chamber Orchestra, Cayuga/Seneca Community Action Agency, Auburn Education Foundation, Cayuga Community Health Network, and ABC Cayuga. She is also a columnist with The Citizen focusing on outstanding volunteers and non-profit programs in Cayuga County. She is a Certified Fundraising Executive.Karen Macier added, “As a longtime United Way supporter and volunteer, I truly embrace its mission. I see the United Way of Seneca County as a change agent that mobilizes the community in remarkable ways.
