On Saturday, December 6, 2013, at 10:00 am, (doors open to the public at 9:00 am) New York Chiropractic College will hold commencement exercises in the Standard Process Health and Fitness Center conferring degrees to 111 Doctors of Chiropractic. Twenty graduates of NYCC’s Bachelor of Professional Studies program will also be recognized. Noble Thomas, outgoing Student Government Association President, will address the assembled audience. Dr. Louis Sporstelli will deliver the commencement address. Throughout his chiropractic career, Dr. Sportelli has served as President of the Pennsylvania Chiropractic Society, Chairman of the Board of the American Chiropractic Association (ACA), and President of the World Federation of Chiropractic. Currently President of the NCMIC Group, Inc., he also serves on the Board of Trustees of the Governance Committee at Blue Mountain Health Systems and has served on the Board of Trustees at Palmerton Hospital. A graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic, Sportelli has lectured extensively on risk management, ethics, communication and other topics related to malpractice. As a spokesperson for chiropractic, he has participated in more than 1,000 radio, television, newspaper and magazine interviews include CBS Evening News, CNN, CBS This Morning, 20/20, Inside Edition, The New York Times. Sportelli has written an educational booklet, Introduction to Chiropractic, widely used patient education publication and has co-authored a text used in many chiropractic colleges entitled Professional Chiropractic Practice: Ethics, Business, Jurisprudence & Risk Management. Among his numerous awards he has been named Chiropractor of the Year in 1992 by the ACA, Chiropractor of the Year by the Ohio State Chiropractic Association in 1994 and in 2004 he received the George Arvidson Award for Meritorious Service to Chiropractic from the Federation of Chiropractic Licensing Board, the Federations highest honor.
