Winter storm will affect Finger Lakes

Most of the Finger Lakes is expected to remain a spectator to the winter storm that will snarl travel up and down the east coast today but that doesn’t mean we won’t be dealing with some snow, especially in the eastern FLX.Low pressure is developing this morning off the coast of the Carolinas. As this storm strengthens, it will shoot northeast along the coast. Cold air coming into the storm will change rain across the Mid Atlantic and southern New England to snow, while central and northern New England see as much as a foot or more of snow today. For those of us sticking in the Finger Lakes this Thanksgiving, we should not have too many worries. A few inches of snow are possible today, especially across the southeastern parts of the Finger Lakes. All in all though, this storm will hardly be memorable unless you are traveling east. The snow should start later this morning and early this afternoon and last the remainder of the daylight hours before tapering off this evening. A few snow showers are likely Thursday and Friday, but with only light accumulations (if any).Have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday and may those of you traveling (or having friends and family on the roads) have safe travels!- Drew Montreuil, FingerLakes1.com Staff MeteorologistFor the latest local forecast and live radar images visit the FingerLakes1.com FingerLakes1.com Local Weather Center.
