Man breaks into Owasco home while resident sleeps

Sheriff David Gould reports that the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of the Auburn Police Department, responded to a report of a Burglary in Progress at 7277 Owasco Road in the Town of Owasco. The resident woke to the sound of an unknown person inside her residence and Cayuga County 911 was called. Units from the Sheriff’s Office and the Auburn Police Department were dispatched to the scene.Auburn Police units were the first to arrive and located Jacob Leader, 21, of 7305 Owasco Road inside the residence. Leader is not known to the victim and had forced entry to the house while the occupants slept. Leader was arrested, arraigned in the Town of Owasco Court, and committed to the Cayuga County Jail without bail. He was charged with Burglary in the Second Degree, Petit Larceny & Possession of Burglar Tools.The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
