Ribbon cutting ceremony for Cayuga Nation Schoolhouse. The Schoolhouse is a new initiative of the Cayuga Nation Unity Council to provide a center for teaching Cayuga culture, including language, songs, dances, traditional foods, etc. to all ages. Its design is inspired by a longhouse, the traditional heart of Haudenosaunee communities. Traditional dress, dances, language and songs will be shared at the ribbon cutting.10 AM Friday, November 21, 2014Located behind the Cayuga Nation Offices,2540 Rt. 89Seneca FallsCayuga culture has survived separation from its land among groups of Cayugas living on other Haudenosaunee territories. Many Cayugas know Seneca or Onondaga culture, but not their own, and are looking for opportunities to learn from those returning Cayugas who are from Grand River, the strongest pocket of Cayuga culture. The Schoolhouse is one of many services and programs provided to Cayuga citizens returning to their homeland by the Cayuga Nation Unity Council.
