Julia Diamond and Amber Relyea, both high school Freshmen at South Seneca MS/HS, were selected to be part the 2014 Jr. High Area All-State Band and Chorus festival at Cortland Jr. Sr. High School as part of the Choral ensembles. Selection is based on last year’s NYSSMA (New York State School Music Association) solo festival scores as well as teacher recommendation. Students are selected out of applicants from Broome, Cayuga, Onondaga, Cortland, Seneca-Tompkins, and Tioga county school districts. There are two choral ensembles, the Mixed Chorus, made up of soprano, alto, tenor, and bass voices, and the Treble Chorus, made up of soprano and alto voices. Julia Diamond was selected as a Soprano for this year’s Mixed Chorus. The guest conductor of the Mixed Chorus is Philip Silvey, assistant professor of Music Education at Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY, where he also conducts the ESM/UR Women’s Chorus. Amber Relyea was selected as a Soprano for this year’s Treble Chorus. The guest conductor of the Treble Chorus is Dr. Barbara Brinson, associate professor of Music Education, emeritus, at SUNY Fredonia in Fredonia, NY.The festival takes place at Cortland Jr. Sr. High School on Friday, November 7th and Saturday, November 8th. On Saturday, November 8th, the Treble Chorus concert starts at 3:00 p.m., and the Mixed Chorus concert starts at 4:00 p.m. Tickets cost $3.00 for students and $5.00 for adults.
