The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office reports that on Thursday, October 16th at 6:24 pm Sheriff’s Deputies responded to State Route 96 in the Town of Covert for the report of a 2 car PI Crash involving a tractor trailer and a Jeep. Following further investigation, it was determined that a tractor trailer being operated by 44 year old Curtis L. Locke of 592 St. Rt. 79 in Richford N.Y. was in the northbound lane of route 96 and was backing into a driveway on the west side of Route 96 across the southbound lane. A Jeep being operated by 48 year old David A. Cormany of State route 228 in Trumansburg was southbound when he failed to see the tractor trailer backing into the driveway. Cormany’s vehicle crashed into the left rear portion of the trailer causing extensive damage to the jeep. The jeep was towed from the scene. Witnesses to the crash informed Deputies that all of the proper lighting was being used by the truck driver and t he truck/trailer combo was highly visible. Investigation led to the arrest of Cormany for speed not reasonable and prudent along with Driving while intoxicated. Cormany was transported to Cayuga Medical Center for neck and back pain. Cormany was issued tickets and is to appear in the T-Covert court on the 1st of December at 10:00 am to answer the charges. Locke was unijured in the crash and the tractor trailer was driven from the scene. Deputies were assisted on scene by the Trumansburg Police Department.
