Soggy afternoon ahead, rain could be heavy

The low pressure system that has been the focus of our weather over the past few days will have its largest impact on our weather today. The first impact is the very warm temperatures this morning. At 6am, many places were hovering around 70º. The normal temperature at that time of day is in the low 40s, making it neraly 30º warmer! Even compared to areas in the Deep South behind the front (like Atlanta), we were 15-20º warmer.Along with the very warm air is a very moist atmosphere which is primied to bring some heavy rain to the area today. The trigger for this heavy rain will be an area of low pressure that was over the Carolinas this morning. As this system lifts north along the cold front, rain should become widespread and at times heavy in the FInger Lakes. Most areas will pick up an inch or so, but some localized areas could see as much as 3″.The rain will taper to showers tonight as the cold front pushes across the region. The air behind the front isn’t too chilly though, with highs Thursday and Friday in the mid 60s despite quite a few clouds and some more showers. For the latest local forecast and live radar images visit the FingerLakes1.com FingerLakes1.com Local Weather Center.
