Great weather continues, possible interruption Thursday

Our stretch of wonderful early autumn weather will briefly be interrupted, starting late this afternoon and lingering through Thursday. The culprit for this interruption is an area of low pressure organizing off the southeast coast. This low should track northeast over the next 48 hours and brush by the Finger Lakes region. The impacts from this system will be greater the farther south and east you go, with the biggest impacts staying outside of the Finger Lakes.Clouds will be the first impact from this system as they move in late this afternoon and linger around for much of Thursday. While areas such as Elmira, Ithaca and Binghamton may get socked solidly within the clouds during most of that time, areas further west such as Rochester, Geneseo and Dansville may escape with only intermittent clouds or no clouds at all.The precipitation from this system will be heavy and concentrated. As such, the vast majority of it will pass well to the east of the Finger Lakes. However, like the thickest clouds, the southern and eastern portions of the Finger Lakes- Elmira, Ithaca, Binghamton- may get a few lighter rain showers out of this system tomorrow. After this system departs, high pressure will reclaim control over our weather through the weekend and into next week. The result will be a return to sunny conditions with more 70s coming up.For the latest local forecast, conditions, and live radar images visit the FingerLakes1.com Local Weather Center.
