Auditions for Washington St. Cemetery Stories

Have you ever wondered who is buried in Washington Street Cemetery? What stories might they tell of life in Geneva in the 19th century? The Geneva Historical Society (in association with the Founders Square Neighborhood Association) announces auditions for a cemetery walk. Twenty years ago, Geneva High School AP History students used the archives at the Geneva Historical Society to research the lives of individuals buried in the Washington St. Cemetery. They created a series of monologues and scenes dramatizing these figures in an event called “Gone But Not Forgotten.” Twenty years later, The Geneva Historical Society is bringing back this program and restaging the original pieces, under a new name-From Beyond: Washington St. Cemetery Stories.Auditions for From Beyond: Washington St. Cemetery Stories will be September 10th and 11th from 7:00-9:00 p.m. in Coxe Hall, Room 7 on the Hobart & William Smith Colleges campus. Roles are available for 6 adults and 3 children (ranging in age from 9-13). Auditions will involve readings from the script. The performance dates are Friday October 3rd in the evening and Saturday October 4th in the afternoon. Performances will be staged in Washington Street Cemetery. Rehearsals will begin mid-September and will be held on the HWS campus.Founded in 1883, the Geneva Historical Society tells the stories of Geneva. The historical society preserves and interprets these stories through three historic house museums (the Geneva History Museum at Prouty-Chew, Rose Hill Mansion, and Johnston House).From Beyond: Washington St. Cemetery Stories will be directed by Chris Woodworth, a Geneva native who is an Assistant Professor of Theatre at Hobart & William Smith Colleges. Recent directing credits include Radium Girls for HWS Theatre, And Baby Makes Seven for Headless Sullivan Theatre, Polaroid Stories and In the Blood for UNCG Theatre, Standing on Ceremony: The Gay Marriage Plays for Paper Lantern Theatre, in association with the Tectonic Theater Project, and If You Give a Mouse a Cookie for THTR 232 (Triad Stage / UNCG Theatre). She is a member of the Lincoln Center Theater Directors Lab and an alum of the SITI Company Summer Intensive. Woodworth was also one of the original actors in the Washington St. Cemetery Walk in 1994.Auditions are open to all. Those wishing to audition should bring their schedules from September 12-October 4 and a resume (or list of previous theatre experience, if any).
