Accidental drowning likely cause of Cayuga Lake death

On Saturday at 11:01 am, Seneca County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of the body of a white male which was found on the west shore of Cayuga Lake, in the area of County Road 153 and Deerlick Springs Road, in the Town of Ovid. Sheriff’s Deputies and Investigators have been working through the weekend investigating the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.The victim has been identified as Douglas W. Laughlin, age 54, originally from Horseheads, New York. Laughlin had recently been staying in the County Road 153 area of Ovid, New York.An autopsy was performed on Sunday, 08/24/2014 at the Onondaga County Medical Examiners Office. Preliminary results show evidence consistent with an accidental drowning.The investigation is continuing.
