We remain stuck in a cool, cloudy and, at times, showery pattern today, despite subtle changes already occurring that will bring us much nicer weather.High pressure aloft is building in from the south as the jet stream starts to lift north. Normally, this would be a good thing, and in the long term it will be. However, there are a couple of factors that will actually make it work against us, first.Winds are out of the southeast today due to the presence of low pressure to our south and high pressure to our northeast. Southeast winds often mean foul weather for us, since the winds are often moisture laden from the Atlantic Ocean. That is the case today, and with high pressure in the upper levels, above this moisture rich air, the moisture and clouds gets trapped in the lower atmosphere. To make matters a bit worse, one final, weak disturbance will slowly move through today. This is triggering a few showers around the region and will continue to do so. The good news is that rain amounts today should be very light and nothing last the last few days.Tonight, high pressure will move in at the surface as well and the atmosphere will start to dry out. Some sun may be possible late this afternoon and evening, but the really nice weather will wait for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. We just have to get through one final cloudy day before we can enjoy the weather again. For the latest local forecast, conditions, and live radar images visit the FingerLakes1.com Local Weather Center.
