Severe weather wakes central FLX residents

Some early morning severe thunderstorms moved through the Finger Lakes today. This radar shot, taken from about 6:51am, shows the severe storm over Seneca Falls. One-inch hail was later reported in Geneva, with some small hail reported elsewhere. These showers and storms were out ahead of a disturbance that is rotating around the large, stalled out low pressure system near the Hudson Bay.This disturbance will track off to the northeast, where it may produce more severe storms this afternoon across northern New England.Even though the worst of the weather today is already through, it does not mean that it will be a lovely day. Additional showers and thunderstorms are possible this afternoon. These storms will primarily be driven by the sun heating up the ground while the mid and upper levels of the atmosphere stay quite cool. The stark differences in temperatures, with colder air above warmer air, is perfect for thunderstorm development.Additional severe weather is not likely, but if a storm gets a bit robust, a little small hail could be possible again. For the latest local forecast, conditions, and live radar images visit the FingerLakes1.com Local Weather Center.
