Finger Lakes set to cool down into tonight

A cold front is poised to move through the region this afternoon. After temperatures overnight failed to drop below 70º for most locations, many will find the cool, less humid air a relief. Before the front pushes the heat out, there is a chance for some showers and thunderstorms today.Today’s showers and storms should be fairly tame in comparison to the storms we had in the first part of July. The best heating will be to the east, but the best winds for organizing and strengthening storms will be behind the front. This will result in a pretty marginal event, with just a minimal chance for severe storms across the Finger Lakes. If any storm does manage to make it to severe levels, strong winds will be the primary threat.Showers and thunderstorms should push east of our region by the early evening hours as the cool air filters in. Low temperatures tonight should be around 60 degrees, with widespread 50’s Thursday night.
