Convention Days paddle in Seneca Falls

As part of Convention Days Celebration 2014, Women’s Rights National Historical Park will be holding the First Annual Convention Paddle along the Cayuga-Seneca Canal on Sunday, July 20th. Join National Park Service rangers and avid kayakers, Women on Water, for a paddle through history as we follow the flow of events that led to the Women’s Rights Movement. Coline Jenkins, Elizabeth Cady Stanton’s great-great-granddaughter, will be paddling with us!The pace will be slow and we’ll be stopping for every eagle and osprey along the way. AND, we’ll be locking through Lock 2 & 3 for a total of a 49′ drop! Put-in is at the Seneca Falls Community Center, located at 35 Water Street in Seneca Falls. Briefing is at 9:00 am at canal side. We plan to be on the water for about six hours so please plan your supplies accordingly. Don’t have a kayak? Just call Fuzzy Guppies at 315-539-8848 who has offered a special discount on kayak rentals for this special event. From 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm, following the paddle, the Gould Hotel, 108 Fall Street, Seneca Falls, will be hosting a wine and cheese tasting for the paddlers. Elizabeth Cady Stanton, portrayed by Dr. Melinda Grube, will be in attendance!Meet Women on Water prior to the paddle at the book signing of their work, “Paddling the Adirondacks and Central New York” on Saturday, July 19th from 12:00 pm – 4:00 pm at the park’s Visitor Center. Their book will be available for purchase in the park’s bookstore.
