Sheriff David Gould reports the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an explosion that seriously injured a 47-year-old man on Monday evening at at 5:23 pm at 5651 Sears Road in the Town of Locke.The investigation revealed that Shawn L. Perreault, age 47 of the same address, was in the process of manufacturing Methamphetamine when the process he was using exploded. The explosion ignited both the mobile home and adjacent pole barn on fire causing major damage to both.Perreault, who was seriously injured, was driven to Cortland Memorial Hospital by his wife, Tanya Perreault age 43, and later airlifted to University Hospital with burns over 60 percent of his body. 2 other adults and one 4 year old child were present at the home at the time of the explosion however were not injured.The Fire was brought under control at approximately 6:30 pm. The Sheriff’s Office Clandestine Laboratory Team responded to the scene along with the Auburn City Fire Department’s Haz-Mat Team to conduct the investigation. The investigation is continuing and charges are pending.Shawn Perreault is currently listed in stable condition.Locke, Cortlandville, Mclean, Dryden, Genoa, and Moravia Fire Departments along with Four Town Ambulance responded to the call. The Sheriff’s Office was also assisted by the Cortland City Police Department who responded to Cortland Hospital upon Perreault’s arrival there and assisted with the gathering of information early in the investigation.Anyone with information concerning this investigation is asked to contact Detective Robert Franklin at (315) 253-1132.
