Geneva Theatre Guild Auditions for HONK!

The Geneva Theatre Guild Youth Theatre will hold auditions and registration for this summer’s Youth Theatre production of HONK! from 4:00-6:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, May 21 and 22. All area young people currently in the fourth through twelfth grades are invited to audition for this summer’s production of HONK!. Those who do not wish to perform are invited to sign-up to work on scenery, lighting, make-up, etc.. The Youth Theatre, which is a free program, will be directed by Pat Collins.According to Collins, HONK! is an upbeat and over-the-top contemporary rock version of the Ugly Duckling which was produced with much success at Geneva High School in 2003. The cast includes a wide range of parts including ducklings, geese, swans, turkeys, a villainous cat and dancing frogs, fish and stage hands. Although HONK! promises to be a real hoot it is also a deeply moving story about human diversity and how we treat those who are different than us.In addition to Collins, HONK!, which will be produced by Larry Ann Evans, will include musical direction by Christine Sauter, costume design by Luann Preston-Wilsey and special assistance from Sharyn Powell, Kat McCorkle and Kaylee Millerd. Rehearsals will take place at Geneva High School and Hobart and William Smith Colleges every Monday through Friday from noon until 4:00 p.m. beginning June 30th and running through August 1st. There will also be some Saturday rehearsals in June. Performances of HONK! will be at Geneva High School on August 1st, 2nd and 3rd. HONK! is presented by special arrangement with Music Theatre International of New York. Those interested in participating in HONK! may register on either May 21st or 22nd. It is suggested that fourth through seventh graders try to come to one of the early sessions and that eighth through twelfth graders come to one of the late sessions, if possible. Those who wish to perform in HONK! should bring a photograph of themselves, should expect to stay for the whole audition and should expect to do a short audition which will include some acting, singing, and dancing. No preparation is necessary. Those wishing to work backstage just need to come and complete a registration form. All those wishing to participate will be accepted into the program. For further information call Pat Collins at 789-4467.
