Waterloo Middle School students and staff will participate in the first annual “Walk, Ride and Roll to School Day” Thursday, May 8, 2014. Students and staff are encouraged to celebrate spring by dusting off their bikes, roller blades, scooters and sneakers to walk, ride or roll to school. As part of Waterloo Middle School’s wellness program, Anna Dennis, Middle School Health Teacher and District Wellness Co-coordinator proposed the day to encourage students and staff to choose alternate ways to get to school and participate in physical activity. Students and staff that live too far to participate can be dropped off at the Waterloo VFW parking lot between 7 and 7:20 AM with their bike, self-propelled scooter, roller blades and HELMET. All participants must wear a helmet and appropriate protective gear. School staff will be there to assist students as they begin their ride/walk to school. All participants dropped off at the VFW will follow the designated route. Waterloo Middle School Staff and members of the Waterloo Police department will provide supervision along the route.
