True Spirit of Memorial Day Challenge

If you were asked to illustrate the true spirit of Memorial Day, what would you create? That is the challenge issued to area artists by this year’s Celebrate Commemorate committee. Artists are invited to submit original art works for a show that will be displayed at the Waterloo Community Center from May 23-27. The theme for this first-ever art show is “The True Spirit of Memorial Day.” “We are hoping that there will be a wide variety of artistic exhibits to show us the spirit of the national holiday that began right here in Waterloo,” said art show chair Lynn Patti.Paintings in oils, acrylics or watercolors, collages, multi-media works, three-dimensional works, and photographs are all eligible. The works must be original and done within the past two years, framed and wired for hanging or to be displayed on tables that will be provided. All work must be clearly identified with artist’s name, medium, and complete contact information. Works will be displayed at the artist’s risk. The show will be juried and prizes awarded for first and second place and People’s Choice.
