Reading Week at Frank Knight Elementary

Frank Knight Elementary School in Seneca Falls will be celebrating their 31st annual Reading Week May 2-9. The theme for this year is Once Upon A Book! The week will kick off with an assembly on Friday May 2nd to announce the Principal’s challenge which will motivate students to read at home each night. If the students meet the challenge the principal will spend Friday dressed as a princess in a turret on the roof of the school. During the week the school will be decorated with a fairy tale theme and students will learn about different fairytales by visiting classroom displays. Students will wear student designed t-shirts and badges, community members will read in each classroom and students will exchange books at the book exchange. Students will be treated to fairy tale themed snacks. Wegmans, Sauders and Walmart have generously donated snacks to make this happen. The highlight of the week will be a presentation by author Mark Catalanotto on Wednesday, May 7th sponsored by the Seneca Falls Historical Society. Each classroom will receive an autographed copy of his book, Ivan the Terrier, purchased by Frank Knight Parent’s Team. He will share how he develops an idea into a story with words and illustrations. The week will conclude on Friday, May 9th with the Principal completing her challenge if the students have met their read at home goal. The students will also see a special presentation of a fairy tale performed by the Magic Circle Children’s Theater of Syracuse managed by Meredith Mancini. The show will conclude with a Fairy Tale Ball. At the end of the Ball each student will receive their own fractured fairy tale to take home. We hope this week inspires all children to read happily ever after!
