Waterloo man arrested with 68 baggies of heroin

On Tuesday, the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit arrested Derek M. Mehlenbacher, age 21, of Owasco Drive in Waterloo, following an investigation into the sale and distribution of heroin in Seneca County. Mehlenbacher was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, a Class B Felony.It is alleged that Mehlenbacher possessed sixty-eight individual packaged baggies of heroin while at a location in the Town of Waterloo. Sheriff’s Investigators further allege that Mehlenbacher intended to sell the heroin locally. Sheriff’s Investigators also seized over $900 in cash.Mehlenbacher was arraigned in the Waterloo Town Court and remanded to the Seneca County Correctional Facility on $5,000 cash bail/$10,000 secured bond. Mehlenbacher is to reappear in the Waterloo Town Court on April 10, 2014 at 5pm. Mehlenbacher is currently being supervised by Seneca County Probation on a charge of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree. The Seneca County Probation Department assisted in the investigation and arrest.
