Wayne County Historical Society’s Jailhouse wine, produced by Thorpe Vineyard, were awarded medals at the Finger Lakes International Wine Competition. Thorpe Vineyard in Wolcott, NY produced the wines for the WCHS as a fundraiser last year. The labels, designed by the WCHS’s summer employee, Annie Wilsey each tell the story of one of the infamous inmates held at the old Wayne County Jail, located in the Historical Societies Museum of Wayne County History. The wines were first present to the public in the Thorpe Tasting Room and later at a a wine tasting at the Holiday Boutique at the Museum. Thorpe entered the wines into the competition along with their Anniversary Wine, XXV. A silver medal was awarded to Georgia Sampson Rosé “Murdered”, bronze for for Oliver Curtis Perry White “Insane,” and XXV and bronze for Big Ed Kelly Red “Robbed!” The wines competed against 3750 wines and were judged by 75 of the World’s top judges from 16 countries.
