The junior class at Finger Lakes Christian School in Seneca Falls just won the Ithaca College School of Business Stock Market Competition. 32 teams from high schools throughout the Northeast competed from November 1st through March 28th.Teams composed of 3-6 student members ranging from 10th to 12th grades received $500,000 in virtual US dollars to build a portfolio consisting of five to twenty stocks. After their initial investment teams had a series of five monthly check-points where they could reallocate their funds. Portfolios were scored and posted each week.Finger Lakes students selected and maintained the highest performing portfolio, posting a final gain of 13.07% over the five-month contest period. Not only did that beat the S&P 500 benchmark for that period, but it translates into an annualized return of 31.4%.Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three teams at an April 19th awards ceremony at Ithaca College.
