Windy & Cold today in the Finger Lakes

March has been a cold month, following a cold winter. But still, today is just not going to be nice. It certainly won’t feel like late March.A very powerful storm over the eastern Atlantic Ocean is rapidly developing this morning. Winds over the open waters of the Atlantic will be over hurricane force today, with wave heights over 50 FEET possible. Here in the Finger Lakes, our experience from this storm will be some wind, bitter cold and lake effect snow showers.Winds will be the strongest further east, but some gusts over 30mph are possible, especially across the higher elevations south and east of Ithaca. Over western New York, it will be a bit breezy, but nothing too out of the ordinary.High temperatures today will only manage the mid 20s as cold air gets sucked south from Canada into the circulation of the storm. With the cold winds crossing Lake Ontario, scattered snow showers should be expected. Wind chills will be in the teens as well, with slightly colder wind chills to the east where the winds will be stronger. Our average high temperatures at this point in March are in the upper 40s. With win chills in the teens, it will feel 30-35º colder than average today. That is just nasty.
