Cayuga Sheriff warns of Mastercard phone scam

Sheriff David Gould reports that the public should be aware of the latest phone scam being perpetrated upon citizens. Numerous Cayuga County residents have received phone calls during which a recorded message states “You’re Master Card has been locked due to fraudulent activity, press 1 to unlock it”. This is a scam and you should hang up immediately. Do not give out any information whatsoever during this phone call.Being that thousands of these calls are being made, there is no reason to report the matter to Law Enforcement unless you have been further victimized. Simply end the call.
