Teens charged in Dickman Farms burglary

Sheriff David Gould reports the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office has arrested two persons in connection with a burglary which was reported at Dickman’s Farms located on Archie St. in the Town of Owasco back on September 29, 2013. The investigation at that time revealed that sometime overnight unknown perpetrator(s) had entered two separate buildings at the business, removed a golf cart from one of them, and had stolen a credit card out of a vehicle. The golf cart was left behind, stuck in a ditch, behind the business. It was also discovered that a small fire had been set in one of the buildings causing minor damage to some contents.Physical evidence left behind by the perpetrators was collected and sent to the New York State Police Lab in Albany for DNA extraction. It was also learned that a New York State Trooper had responded to a suspicious person complaint at the Owasco Elementary School, a short distance from Dickman’s Farms, on 09/28/13. The Trooper located and identified two teenagers in that area. The two teenagers were interviewed by Sheriff’s Detectives after the burglary was reported however both denied involvement.On January 31st detectives received results from the lab indicating that DNA found on the physical evidence matched the DNA of one of the two teenagers. A subsequent interview then led to the arrests.Charged are:A 17-year-old resident of Auburn was arrested 02/20/14, arraigned in the Town of Sennett Court and released on his own recognizance.Brandon J. Malone age 18 of 3 Stryker Ave. Auburn- arrested on 02/24/14, arraigned in the Town of Owasco Court and released on his own recognizance. – Burglary in the third degree (felony)- Arson in the fifth degree (misdemeanor)- Petit Larceny (misdemeanor)Anyone with further information about this investigation is asked to contact Detective Brian Schenck at (315) 253-3545.
