Geneva electrcian convicted on child porn charges

Geneva electrician, Joseph Jenkins, was convicted Thursday by a federal jury of transportation and possession of child pornography.Mr. Jenkins was found with child porn on his laptop after being stopped at the Canadian border in March of 2009. Jenkins was charged in Canada but failed to appear. The US Dept. of Homeland Security investigated and he was charged in the U.S.Court papers showed that while awaiting trial in Cayuga County, Jenkins made phone calls to his parents that were recorded. Some of those calls were played in court and helped the prosecution win a conviction.In addition to admissions in the calls, Mr. Jenkins’ laptop and thumb drive contained thousands of images of child porn.Mr. Jenkins faces up to 20 years in prison, plus a fine of up to $250,000.Following the verdict, Jenkins was arraigned on a separate charge of perjury. He is accused of lying to federal authorities when he claimed he could not afford a lawyer
