Clyde-Savannah dominant in win over Lyons

A packed gymnasium in Clyde, NY braved single-digit temperatures on Wednesday night for what is traditionally the most heated rivalry in Wayne County. Neighboring Lyons stood 2 games back of undefeated Clyde-Savannah in the Wayne County League standings but that didn’t diminish the intensity and electricity in the building, especially considering the Lions have won the last two times they traveled to Clyde. In the end, it would be Clyde running away with a 72-58 victory in a game that wasn’t as close as the 14 point final score would indicate.Lyons jumped out to an early lead thanks to a pair of early turnovers and buckets by Damon Hunter and D.J. Long. Clyde immediately responded with an 18-4 run led by a flurry of scores from Joe Faniel and ignited by a breakaway slam by C-S senior Joemaine Bogan…Lyons found it difficult to score or rebound against the bigger Golden Eagles line-up and their main offensive weapon, junior point guard Damon Hunter, found himself in early foul trouble. He would eventually foul out in the fourth quarter with 15 points on the night. Chris Peay provided some offense late in the game scoring a season-high 14 on the night. The Golden Eagles had no problem scoring on Wednesday night, thanks in large part to the hot hand of senior point guard Joe Faniel who led all scorers on the night with 23 points. For Clyde-Savannah, Kam DiSanto finished with 18 points which puts him over the 1,000 point mark for his career. DiSanto also landed hard on his ankle in the 3rd quarter but was able to walk it off and remain in the game.Another bright spot for Clyde was the workman-like effort of junior Michael Turner who scored 12 points, pulled down 7 rebounds and added four blocks. Turner has improved his free-throw shooting, he was 2-4 on the night, and has developed a knack for scoring around the rim.Joemaine Bogan scored the final two of his 14 points on the night with a 3rd quarter slam over Peay to ice the victory and virtually clinch the Wayne County League championship, a title they shared with Lyons last season. For the full replay of Wednesday night’s webcast, click here.Joe Faniel appeared with Dave Barnick on the Seneca Meadows Postgame Show…In other Wayne County League action on Wednesday night:North Rose-Wolcott 68 Gananda 45 NRW – (9-3) Tyler Norris 22; Chris Dean 21, 15 rebsGAN – (8-5) Brady Seaman 10Williamson 42 Red Creek 61WIL – (1-12) Tom Ferland 11; Bennett Schoonerman 11RCK – (5-7) Jake Slobe 38 (7 three pointers), 9 rebsSodus 52 Marion 40 SOD – (5-8) Ignacio Ruiz 15MRN – (2-11) Preston Crego 21
