Newark rallies from 14 down to shock Geneva

The Newark Reds entered Friday night’s boys varsity basketball game at Geneva just one game behind Finger Lakes East leading Panthers. The difference, coming back on December 10th, when the Panthers beat the Reds in Newark by a score of 66-61. Before the night was over in Geneva, Newark would even the mark with a 53-46 victory to force a tie atop the FL East. Newark fell behind 21-7 with 5 minutes left in the second quarter but stormed back with a 14-2 run sparked by a two-hand slam dunk by Phil Tack to pull within 2 of the Panthers at the half. Terrell Johnson fouled out with 6 minutes left in the 4th quarter leaving the Panthers short-handed. Newark PG Tyler Collins scored 9 points in the final period and Micah Wright capped the win with a late slam of his own, his third dunk in as many games, to lift the Reds to the victory in front of a standing room only crowd at Geneva High School.Geneva and Newark, both Class A2 schools, each stand at 7-1 in the Finger Lakes East.
