Penn Yan man rented, then sold TV & fake heroin

A twenty-year-old Penn Yan man was arrested on Wednesday on charges that he rented a 60″ television, which he immediately sold at a pawn shop. He was also charged with sale of imitation heroin. Both crimes allegedly occurred in November.Devon Pierce, of Ridge Road in Penn Yan, was charged with the sale of an imitation controlled substance and misapplication of property.Pierce allegedly sold an imitation controlled substance to an agent of the police. At the time, Pierce was representing the substance as being heroin. Laboratory analysis later showed that the substance was not heroin.According to police, in November Pierce rented a 60″ flat screen television from Rent-A-Center in Penn Yan which he subsequently sold the same day to a local pawn shop. Rental payments were maintained through mid-December. Investigation into the delinquent account revealed that the TV had in fact been sold by Pierce.Pierce was arraigned in Penn Yan Village Court where he was committed to the Yates County Jail on bail to reappear.
