Cold front moving through, snow tonight

A cold front will move through the region this afternoon, ushering in some bitterly cold air and lake effect snow. The map below shows the expected amounts of snow through 9:00 am Sunday morning, with most of the snow falling during the overnight hours. As is usually the case with lake effect on a northwest wind, much of the Finger Lakes gets missed out on the really heavy snow. However, a spray of flurries and squalls should impact the region, with a few inches of snow possible, especially in the heavier bands. The far eastern Finger Lakes will see more snow as a more organized band is expected to form off the southeast end of Lake Ontario. Higher elevations in this area will also help produce higher snow totals. In fact, the hills south of Syracuse could end up with 8-10″ by Sunday morning.Snow should begin to taper off tomorrow morning, with just a few areas of snow left. By late Sunday, most of the area should be clear of snow. For the full forecast, radar and details from FL1 Meteorologist Drew Montreuil, visit our Local Weather Center.
