Red Jacket wins championship in OT battle

Red Jacket overcame an 8 point halftime deficit to win the Section V Class DD championship on Sunday at Sahlen’s Stadium, defeating Cal-Mum in overtime by a score of 36-28.After their halftime lead was erased, Caledonia-Mumford’s Joe Cappotelli tied the game with a touchdown run with just 5:24 left in the fourth quarter. Cal-Mum’s Kurtis Haut rushed for an impressive 238 yards and two scores while throwing for another 133 yards. But it wasn’t enough to hold off a persistent Red Jacket Indian squad who pulled out the win in overtime.Kyle Fogarty ran the ball 28 times for 137 yards and two touchdowns, including the game winner in OT. Sean Sheets also broke the century mark with 116 yards rushing on 11 carries and a touchdown. Sheets also cliched the victory, and the championship, with his interception in overtime.Red Jacket quarterback Lee Perry was 6/13 passing for 158 yards and a touchdown, a 27 yard pass to Ryan Sadler.Red Jacket, 8-1, will advance to face what is quickly becoming their biggest rival, Clyde-Savannah, the Class D champs. Red Jacket eliminated Clyde-Savannah from the post season last year but C-S avenged the loss earlier this season when the two teams met in October.
