Clyde-Savannah wins Class D football title

After trailing 24-14 after three quarters of play in the Section V Class D title game at Sahlen’s Stadium on Sunday afternoon, the Clyde-Savannah Golden Eagles came storming back to take the lead with 6 minutes left in the game. They would hold on for a 30-24 victory over Alexander to capture their second straight sectional championship.C-S quarterback Joe Faniel was 5 for 9 passing for 62 yards and two touchdowns but it was a 56 yards rushing and the game winning score he ran in that was the difference. Faniel also contributed 11 tackles on the defensive side of the ball.Todd Romano lead C-S rushers with 71 yards on 7 carries and a touchdown. Kam DiSanto rounded out the scoring for the Golden Eagles with an 18 yard touchdown reception.For Alexander, Dylan Scharlau’s 144 rushing yards on thirty-three carries and two touchdowns weren’t enough as their season comes to an end with a record of 7-2.Clyde-Savannah, 8-1, will now face Class DD champion Red Jacket, a team they defeated earlier this season.
