Penn Yan Police responded to a motor vehicle accident involving a vehicle striking a bicyclist on Liberty Street in Penn Yan by Tops Market on Sunday at about 2:57 pm.Douglas Corey, age 50 of Elm Street in Penn Yan, was driving southbound on Liberty Street when he had what is believed to be a medical issue and lost control of his vehicle.Corey traveled into the opposite lane of traffic and struck a bicyclist then continued into a telephone pole causing the pole to break.Penn Yan Ambulance responded and transported both Corey and the bicyclist from the scene to Soldiers and Sailors Hospital.The bicyclist suffered injuries to his legs and arms while Corey had only minor injuries.The Penn Yan Fire Department also responded to assist with traffic control and fluids leaking from the vehicle. The State DOT was also contacted and Liberty Street was shit down from Chapel Street to Elm Street for approxiametly four hours while municipal workers fixed the pole.Corey was issued a ticket for failure to keep right.
