According to Penn Yan Village Police, a Montour Falls man stole a credit card that had recently been used in Penn Yan on Sunday and used it to make purchases in Penn Yan, Watkins Glen, Montour Falls, Bradford and Pine Valley.A suspect in the theft and subsequent grand larceny was arrested on Wednesday.Matthew C. Sproesser, age 36 of Catherine Street in Montour Falls was arrested and charged with Grand Larceny 4th degree and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 4th degree. Both are NYS Class E Felonies.Penn Yan Police were able to identify Sproesser with assistance from the Schuyler County Sheriff’s Department.Sproesser was arraigned in Penn Yan Village Court and remanded to the Yates County Jail on bail to reappear.The investigation is continuing concerning the transactions made with the card in the surrounding counties.
