On Friday, Seneca County Sheriff Deputies responded to a two-car motor vehicle accident that occurred on Route 336 in the Town of Fayette that claimed the life of a 20-year-old passenger in one of the cars.A vehicle driven by Janet M. Freed, age 18 of 1657 Route 96A in Ovid was westbound on Route 336 and was beginning to turn left in to a driveway, when she failed to see a eastbound vehicle. Freed turned into the path of the on-coming vehicle and was struck in the passenger side. The eastbound vehicle was driven by Elaine S. Hilliard, age 35, of Reed Road in Waterloo.A passenger in Freed’s vehicle, Esther J. Freed, age 20 of Route 96A in Ovid had to be extricated from the vehicle by members of the Fayette Fire Department. She was then transported by North Seneca Ambulance to Geneva General Hospital and then transferred to Strong Memorial Hospital where she died as a result of internal injuries sustained in the accident.Hilliard complained of wrist and knee pain and was treated at Geneva General Hospital and released.Janet Freed was checked at the scene by North Seneca Ambulance but was uninjured.Both vehicles sustained heavy damage.
