Sheriff David Gould reports that the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Department is continuing the investigation into a fatal motorcycle accident which occurred 09/18/13 at 11:25am on Rockefeller Rd. approximately one mile north of the Village of Moravia. The investigation reveals that a northbound 1996 Chevrolet Suburban operated by Kathleen M. Wood age 34 of 2341 Rockefeller Rd. Moravia, making a left turn into her own driveway, was struck in the driver’s side by a 2002 Honda motorcycle operated by Benjamin L. Cornwell age 19 of 19 Church St. Moravia which was also northbound and attempting to pass the suburban as it made its turn into the driveway. Benjamin Cornwell was pronounced dead at the scene. Kathleen Wood was not injured. The investigation is continuing however there are no charges anticipated at this time. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Four Town Ambulance, Moravia Fire Department, Cayuga County Coroner’s Office, West Niles Fire Department, Southern Cayuga Ambulance, Cayuga County Emergency Management Office and the Cayuga County 911 Center.
